Chinese Porcelain with Zhuanshu (archaic seal script)
Porcelain with marks in the form of 6 or 4 characters in archaic form, usually seen on the base of an item. They were originally formulated in respect of the reign of the emperor of that time. Please note genuine archaic seal scripts were believed to be introduced in the marking of porcelain in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) , approximately in the reign of the emperor Yongzheng (1723-1735), and was widely used from the reign of the emperor Qianlong (1736-1795) onwards. Please note copies of archaic seal marks have been used in porcelain in respect of previous emperors, through the Qing Dynasty/Republic Period up until now in the 21st century. Copies of archaic seals marks are not only from the Yongzheng emperors reign and onwards but you may see it in e earlier pieces such as for e.g. Emperor Kangxi, and of the emperors Yongle, Xuande and Chengua of the Ming dynasty (1368 - 1644). Chinese Porcelain also comes in various palettes, e.g. Famille Rose, Famille Verte (predominately green), Famille Noir (predominately black), Famille Jaune, blue and white etc.
